Hiking Tips Grossarl Valley – Hotel Tauernhof
Why not choose your favourites from a selection of the best hikes for your summer holiday in Salzburg? Here are some hiking tips for the Grossarl Valley.
The team from the Hotel Tauernhof have compiled a number of hiking tips for you. Let the tours speak for themselves; a hiking holiday in Salzburg is a fantastic experience for the entire family.
- Walk “Achenpromenade”, approx. 1 hour (there & back)
A gentle walk along the waterfront of the Grossarl Ache stream. The waterfront promenade path (number 10) takes you to the exhibition of the wood sculptor, Albin Kreuzer. You can have a look for yourselves at the masterfully sculpted crucifixes and sculptures. There is a comfortable stop for refreshment at the end of the path. - Half-day tour “Panorama hiking trail”, approx. 3 hours (one way)
The panorama hiking trail connects the communities Grossarl and Hüttschlag and follows the westerly side of the Grossarl Valley. You hike along the waterfront of the Grossarl Ache stream in the direction of Hüttschlag. The gentle trail leads you over field paths and goods trails (Güterwege) through the lovely valley landscape. In the meadowlands, the small stretches of woodland and in the crystal-clear rivers and streams, you can discover the beauty of the region. On arrival in Hüttschlag, you can decide whether you want to walk back or whether you want to travel back by local bus. - Half-day tour to the “Gerstreitalm”, approx. 3 hours (there & back)
On the trail number 65 you begin the hike from Grossarl. The trail leads you to the uphill track number 65a, which leads through pastures at an easygoing pace. After crossing a trench, the mountain pasture track becomes somewhat steeper and takes you through the wood to the “Gerstreitalm” at a height of 1,575 metres. The way down is possible for example via the forest road (number 66) and after that, the somewhat more challenging mountain pasture track number 65. - Day hikes from Arltörl – Schuhflicker summit, approx. 6 hours (there & back)
Via the goods trail “Rattersberg” you come to the “Lainholz” farm. From this point, a narrow roadway (Nr. 35) leads over the woodland clearing to the “Berglandhaus” mountain cottage. The mountain trail leads you on over the meadows to Arltörl at a height of 1,797 metres. Carrying on in a northerly direction, it is about an hour to the weathercross and onto the Schuhflicker (2,214 m). For the last part, you’ll need steady legs and a clear head against dizziness. The way back is the same as the way there until the weather cross, after that you take a left turn and go in the direction of Aualm down into the valley.
