Here is a short selection of attractions in Grossarl and highlights in Salzburger Land that are certainly worth a visit:

Grossarl outdoor pool

The Grossarl outdoor pool is just a stone’s throw from the Vitalhotel Tauernhof and is open from 9:00 to 19:30 daily if the weather is nice.

A remarkable leisure centre and wonderful outdoor pool in the “Valley of Alms” offering bathing fun for all the family, with its non-swimmer area, sports pool, wide slide, diving boards, children’s pool with chute, sunbathing lawns, restaurant and more.

Panoramabahn Grossarltal lift

Discover one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Grossarltal region, the “Valley of Alms”.

The Grossarltal 6-seater gondola lift starts very close to the Hotel Tauernhof, and takes you up to a height of 1850 m above sea level in just a few minutes. From here there are countless hiking opportunities and some interesting mountain bike routes.

Großglockner High Alpine Road

More than 50,000,000 people have come and experienced this impressive Alpine road, by car, motorbike, or bus. The trip to the top is a rare display of nature, taking you through different vegetation zones around the highest mountain in Austria, from cornfields through to glacial ice.

New: From 2017, the SalzburgerLand Card means you can enjoy either a 24-hour Salzburg card for the city of Salzburg, or a free trip on the Großglockner High Alpine Road!

Ferleiten Animal Park

Right at the bottom of the Großglockner High Alpine Road is a 15 Hectare animal park, home to more than 200 animals that have the region as their habitat. In the middle, there is a large pool with plenty of places to sit and rest, and a viewing tower. There are informative notices telling you about the flora and fauna of the Alps.

Kaprun hydroelectric power station

Hydroelectric power has a long, eventful history in Austria, and at the Kaprun power station you can enjoy a fascinating trip into the mountains to the shimmering turquoise water of the high altitude reservoirs. Find out more about the use of hydroelectric energy and its benefits on a tour of the dam, or in the electricity and ice exhibition.

Werfen ice caves

The largest ice caves in the world are in Salzburger Land. At the “Eisriesenwelt” you can see amazing ice pillars and slabs. Equipped with a carbide lamp, head up into the eternal ice. The sculptures in the ice palace are sure to take your breath away.

Other great places to visit in Salzburger Land

As well as the highlights in the region, there are lots of other things to discover in Salzburger Land. Here is just a small selection of other places to visit in the region:

Mozart’s city of Salzburg

A city full of culture, sights, and a unique zest for life. Even people who think they know Mozart’s city can always discover something new here. Attractions such as the “Haus der Natur” science museum, Hellbrunn zoo, Hohensalzburg fortress, Mozart’s birthplace, and Mirabell Palace to name but a few.

Hüttschlag head of the valley

Hüttschlag is in the Hohe Tauern National Park and offers fantastic hiking routes, but also a range of fishing possibilities. Sport and leisure fishermen are in their element here for flyfishing.

Hidden in the Dürrnberg mountain is also the reason behind the legendary wealth of the historic city of Salzburg. Discover the exciting history of the “white gold” for yourself!

Badgastein spa

The charming, green, wide Gasteinertal valley is worth a visit in itself. However, this valley, steeped in legend, is also home to a true gem: the spa resort of Badgastein, built on a rocky slope. There are wonderful hiking paths and the Badgastein thermal baths are a real hit for families, especially on rainy days in summer and cold winter days.

The “Gut Aiderbichl” estate

A great place for animal lovers to visit! This picturesque farm has become something of an ark when it comes to protection of animals. Gut Aiderbichl has become renowned, and this is small wonder; the happy faces around its animals, and the message it gives about caring for weaker animals is truly inspiring.

The Königssee lake

The Königssee lake with its crystal clear emerald green water stretches out in neighbouring Berchtesgadener Land, and has a truly fabulous, enchanting ambience, very inviting for swimming and enjoying beautiful boat trips.

The attractive architecture of the building incorporates a lot of glass, wood, and fresh colours that blend harmoniously with the picturesque surroundings that were its inspiration in many ways.
