We look at people and nature

Sustainable holidays in the Salzburg region

At the Tauernhof, sustainability and climate protection are not just empty words for us, but an important part of our attitude – in everyday life and in our business. Because our greatest asset is the beautiful nature here in our homeland. And we want you to be able to enjoy it for many years to come. We are therefore all the more delighted that our commitment has been recognised with the Austrian Ecolabel – a seal that is strictly and independently tested.

For its exemplary commitment to climate and environmental protection, the Tauernhof has not only been certified with the Austrian Ecolabel, but has now also received the umwelt blatt salzburg2022 environmental award. You can read about what exactly this award entails and how our guests benefit from our environmental awareness in our latest magazine article (in German).

Sustainable energy and water management

Almost energy self-sufficient from roof to basement

From lofty heights, some may catch sight of our photovoltaic system, which now covers 10% of our electricity needs. The remaining 90% comes from local hydropower. Our family also contributes to the production of green electricity with minimal impact on nature with our own hydropower plant on the Großarler Ache river – practically on our doorstep. The power station, which is run by senior boss Ambros Hettegger and his two brothers, produces five times the annual electricity consumption of the Tauernhof!

Our own deep well supplies up to 23,000 litres of fresh spring water per hour. This not only feeds our pool facilities, but also supplies the building services and irrigates our green spaces.

The water in our pools is heated to a comfortable temperature by a sophisticated waste heat system in the cold stores and refrigerators, as well as by heat recovery from the ventilation system. The remaining heat required for our building is generated by local wood chips – so that you don't freeze even in winter.

You can find lots more background information on this topic in our Tauernhof Magazine article ‘Green, greener, gold!’ (in German).

Enjoy regional produce & support the local economy

Pure regional delight

Sustainability also plays an important role in the food we prepare for you in our kitchen – and we apply correspondingly strict criteria when selecting our partners. We source many of our products from the surrounding region in order to promote the local economy and avoid long transport routes. With our own sheep breeding programme at the Tauernhof farm, we are also contributing to this ourselves.
External guests can enjoy regional delicacies in our restaurant ‘Die Schatzarei’.

Additional measures to make your holiday greener
  • Natural materials such as wood, felt and stone were used in the renovation of the Tauernhof, some of which also come from the region, such as Rauris crystal marble. Keep your eyes open and go on a journey of discovery in the hotel.
  • In addition to training and further education in sustainability, the satisfaction of our employees is also very important to us. Because only when you feel good yourself can you make sure others have a good time too.
  • We also support you in travelling sustainably and provide 12 Type 2 wall boxes in our underground car park for charging your electric vehicle free of charge.
  • Environmental bonus: Guests who care about the environment receive a special treat from us. We reward every adult who travels sustainably by bus or train with a € 50 beauty voucher for Tauernschick!
